The IRS says I’m personally liable. Is that real?
It can be. The Trust Fund Recovery Penalty lets the IRS assess the withheld part of payroll tax against owners, officers, and others it considers responsible. It isn’t discharged in bankruptcy, and it survives the company closing. That’s why payroll cases are worth getting in front of someone early.
Is this free?
Yes. Tally Tax never charges you or your business. Professionals pay us a flat fee for each request we send them. That fee is never a percentage of what you owe, and it isn’t tied to how the case turns out. Ask the professional about their own fees before you hire them.
Will my information go to multiple companies?
No. Your request goes to one professional. Tally Tax may also contact you about it. Our privacy policy explains exactly what we share and with whom.
Who will contact me?
An enrolled agent or a tax resolution firm that handles business IRS cases. Enrolled agents are licensed by the IRS and can represent a business anywhere in the U.S. We confirm credentials are active before we send anything.
Why do you text me a code?
It confirms the phone number is yours before anything is sent. A professional only receives requests that pass this check, so you won’t be contacted about a form someone else filled in with your number.
We already have an accountant. Why use this?
Ask them first. Many accountants prepare returns and payroll filings but refer out IRS collection work, which is a different skill. If yours does, we can match you with someone who handles it.
How fast will someone contact me?
Your request is sent to a professional within minutes of you submitting it. Most reach out within one business day, though the timing is up to them, not us. They’ll contact you by call, text, or email. If a revenue officer has given you a deadline, say so on the first call.
Can a professional reduce what the business owes?
Sometimes, but no one can say before reviewing the books. Installment agreements, penalty relief, and offers in compromise each have eligibility rules, and payroll tax has its own. Be wary of anyone who promises a result before looking at your records.
Is Tally Tax a law firm or a tax preparer?
No. We’re a matching service. We don’t give tax or legal advice, and we don’t work on your case. The professional you’re matched with is independent.
How do I stop being contacted?
Reply STOP to any text, tell the caller you’d like them to stop, or email [email protected]. You can also use our privacy request form.
